FEATURED PROJECTS

     Detroit Health Connect Members volunteer every Sunday from 12 noon to 3pm, distributing information about free and reduced-cost health and wellness resources to the soup kitchen clients! We hand out approximately 60 resources every Sunday!

This past winter, DHC members collected donations of winter and health care essentials. We were able to collect hats, gloves, scarves, dental kits, period products, and socks from local businesses and organizations.  We also included a sheet of our most popular resources in these donation bags. Once formed, DHC members went around the Detroit community, handing out these holiday care packages to the homeless and underprivileged community members. We were able to make and hand out over 150 care packages! 

DHC Members participated in Wayne State Medical School's Reach Out To Youth's Be a Doctor for Day this past February. We taught health lectures to Detroit Public School students to introduce them to the health field professions. 

DHC  members are partnered with the Chief Health Officer of Detroit Public Schools in order to determine the resources surrounding all of the schools in the district. We will distribute this information to the parents and students' s well as posting them online for reference. The school district hopes to use this information to determine what services are lacking in the surrounding area, such as counseling, in order to provide these services inside the school. 

DHC in conjunction with DPS are initiating Health lectures on Diet and Nutrition, Drug Abuse Prevention, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and Hygiene and Grooming in the schools this semester. We are working with med students, doctors, and DPS staff to give these lectures to boys and girls during the school day.
